North Puget Sound
This island project was as much about the creation of place as the creation of the architecture. The site had previously been badly logged and was almost impenetrable. Two meadows were created flanking an allée of deciduous trees that grew in the former logging road. A new road was created that choreographs the experience of entry past a future observation tower and down into the lower meadow. The meadow is anchored on three sides by two sleeping cabins and a main building. Each building faces both into and out of the meadow providing a sense of refuge and connection. The main building has four porches, two for arrivals and two to provide shelter from sun and rain while enjoying the light of sunrises and sunsets. |
