Mount Shadows
This project consists of a gate/guesthouse and a cottage. The narrow gatehouse forms one segment of a thick "hedge" which separates the parking area from the landscape around the cottage and provides the pedestrian connection between the two. A barn door slides back to reveal a central entry slot through the building, a small guest room to the left, and a bath and tool storage area to the right. At the top of the moss-covered, rocky slope rising from the field to the south, the cottage is placed along a path of tall fir trees. Its compact plan includes a bedroom, bathroom and great room. Contained within the great room are the kitchen, dining and seating areas. |
